Our History
The Lisbon History Center was established in early 1990 by the city of Lisbon.  The history center is a non-profit organization with support coming from fundraisers, donations, grants, and designated donations.  In 2010 The Lisbon History Center Foundation was created and became it's own 501c3 non-profit give the foundation control of the funding for the Lisbon History Center.  The Lisbon History Center Foundation is still funded by the same means of income.  The Lisbon History Center Foundation appreciates every donation they receive not mater large or small every little bit helps.

The Lisbon History Center has had many locations, we started above the Lisbon Library at what is now Heritage Hall, moved to a little business front on Main Street in downtown Lisbon.  We then moved to an old school house just south of Southeast Linn Community Center on Washington Street.  In October of 2006, the Lisbon History and Cultural Center moved from a location of 800 square feet to it's present location with over 2000 square feet, where we currently reside.  The history center is now full from the front door to the back door.  Over the last eight and a half years the history center has made some improvements, we are currently filling almost 3,000 square feet.  The history center features a research library with local area information dating back to the mid 1800's, when Lisbon was founded, taped interviews from past and present, scrapbooks, and a vast collection of family history books.  Along with Lisbon history we also have a collection of history from the Mt. Vernon area.

We have four general areas in the history center, we have our front "parlor" with different displays that are changed out regularly and antique furniture.  The next main area is the research room with seating and work tables, where all of the family histories are along with individual subjects from storms to graduation.  In the research room is where we keep what we refer to as "Our Bible", this is our catalog of area obituaries.  Each letter of the alphabet is indexed in the corresponding book.  Next we have our permanent displays divided into area with specific themes including a vast military display, history of the Lincoln Highway through Lisbon, antique kitchenware, or house room, which is one of our newest permanent display thanks to a private donation and an area dedicated to the Lisbon Community School.  Along with this school area there is a vast collection of articles about the school in the research area.  In the rear of your local history is all about early family living, there is a turn of the century kitchen, antique farm equipment, trapping gear and history of rural Lisbon including the Historic Sutliff Bridge.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us with cataloging, sorting newspaper clipings, and other small task.  If you are retired, in school, or just looking for something to do stop by and see us we are always glad to see new faces.

We are also always looking for memorabilia from the area on history of Lisbon or families from the area.
